A brand-new school paves the way for enhanced learning in Archer City, Texas!
After a year of attending classes in portable buildings, students in Archer City now have a permanent home in their new school which features upgraded classrooms and facilities, such as a new auditorium, student lounge area and TV studio.
Media Support Group (MSG) was able to assist in the design and integration of the TV production studio which features multiple cameras, video switching, graphics and a studio lighting system.
Archer City's production system will allow students to learn about production, editing, sound and lighting, as well as prepare them for college and future careers in production. This system features a NewTek TriCaster that handles live video switching, graphics, clips playback and virtual sets. JVC cameras and a prompter are attached to mobile dollies to move freely in the studio and are connected to the system with custom camera cabling. The prompter is used to assist students with the production script.
Their new TV studio has plenty of space for the school to shoot segments using a news desk setup similar to a traditional news set, as well as an interview area with a green screen. The lighting system features Ikan LED lights mounted to a lighting grid which provides flexibility if the lighting positions need to be adjusted in the future. An audio snake provides mic connections for the talent and are connected to an audio mixer in the control room.
This new production system provides a way to keep the school informed with its weekly newscast and allows students to learn about video production and audio visual technology.

As technology improves and becomes more affordable, schools and technology centers are better able to provide programs that teach students about video production.
Northeast Technology Center (NTC) in Pryor, Oklahoma is one these technology centers. The Business Administration, Multimedia and Graphics (BAMG) career program at NTC was awarded a lottery grant from the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech that was used to build out a high-end production studio.
April Blackwell led the charge by applying for the grant and having the vision for the new production space.
The new set-up will provide students with opportunities to learn firsthand about editing, production, live television, sound and lighting. The space will also function as a photography studio.
April believes the new studio will help students by providing hands-on experience with the latest video production technology and prepare students to enter the workforce with advanced skills. Additionally, NTC's facility will be available for rental by "sending" schools and members of the community. NTC’s Business & Industry Services Business Development clients will be able to utilize the studio to promote their small businesses, and local companies can enlist the help of video students to promote their businesses while providing the students real-life work opportunities.
