TCU basketball is on the move. Congratulations to the Horned Frogs on their NIT championship! Speaking of moving, Media Support Group provided TCU with a portable video production solution in the newly renovated Ed and Mae Schollmaier Arena. Commonly called a "flypack", this portable solution allows for TCU to produce separate content for the in-house audience, rather than displaying a program feed from the broadcast center as had been the practice previously.
Powered by NewTek TriCaster 460 and 3Play 425 components, the flypack receives SDI camera signaling over fiber from the remote broadcast center and allows the on-site operator to capture and replay camera angles independently, providing fans with multiple slomo angles of the highlights that elevated the Horned Frogs to a championship level.
While using the flypack to select multiple slomo replays greatly enhances the entertainment value for the fans, this functionality also expands the amount and value of inventory available to sponsors. Possibilities for video production of other TCU athletic events are also expanded by the portable nature of the flypack, as well as the ability of the NewTek products to provide clip playback, graphics creation and streaming capability.
