Carthage High School Springs Forward with Press Box Upgrade

It's officially spring and track season is in full effect for high schools across the country.  Carthage ISD in Carthage, Texas recently underwent a press box renovation for their high school which included upgrades to their current video production system just in time for their district track meet.

Carthage's renovation included merging two rooms in the press box into one room to add more space for operators and house all gear in one equipment rack. On the countertop, user monitors and peripherals were extended from the rack which sits on casters for easy access.  The new setup also integrated camera runs to multiple locations making it easy to patch depending on the event. Their production is powered by NewTek, which is capable of switching live cameras, graphics and replays.

Their previous production setup, shown below, was a flypack placed in a corner of the room with the TD operating the system from the flypack. The room was very crammed making it difficult to accommodate the operators, which affected the workflow of the production.

Carthage's new setup included upgraded equipment to improve the signal to high definition. Conversion allows the cameras to send an HD signal from the HDMI output over the existing SDI cabling.

In addition, their wireless camera system has been replaced with a new system that beams an HD signal from anywhere in the stadium line of sight. This creates a vast improvement over their previous system by increasing range and reliability. In addition, a large monitor was wall mounted to allow the producer to easily view all sources and stay on top of the production.

Carthage's improved system is not only good to go for track season, but will be a great addition for the upcoming football season and CHSTV!
